Day 1
 Malpensa to Bassano del Grappa


Highlights: Peschiera del Garda, Bassano del Grappa Orientation Walk, Welcome Aperitif and Dinner
Meeting at Milan’s Malpensa Airport at 10:30am, your holiday begins as we travel east to Bassano del Grappa in the Veneto region of Italy.

Bassano del Grappa sits at the foot of the pre-Alps below Monte Grappa. Before we arrive in Bassano del Grappa we stop at our first lake stop at the lakeside town of Peschiera del Garda to stretch our legs and have some lunch. Bassano del Grappa is known for its grappa distilleries, a potent spirit distilled from the skins, pulp, seeds and stems from wine making. Seasonal cherries and white asparagus are grown in this district.

We can stop at a roadside vendor to choose some freshly picked cherries or if you want them fresher we can arrange for you to pick your own. The town is also the home of the designer label Diesel. You will arrive at your hotel in plenty of time to settle in and have a short orientation walk around the town before a welcome aperitif and dinner.

Day 2 Day in the small towns of Marostica and Cittadella
Highlights: Marostica, Local Markets, Leisure Time to Explore, Lunch in a Local Osteria, Cittadella’s Walls

Following a leisurely start, today we wander the quieter back roads to the nearby towns in the valley west of Bassano del Grappa following Hemmingway’s travels. Enjoy the bustle of the local market at Marostica. Roam the backstreets or perhaps climb to the top of the Castello Inferiore. From here there’s a superb view of the surrounding landscape and across the town square to the Castello Superiore and the city’s walls cascading down the hillside.

Lunch will be Italian style at one of Hemmingway’s favourite local osterias. After lunch a short drive takes us to Cittadella where you can stroll the streets of this fortified town. Explore galleries hidden in the massive 13th century fortified walls which still form an almost unbroken ring around the town or walk along the top for a different view.

Day 3 Veronaitaly tour packages Marostica
Highlights: Guided Visit to Verona, Basilica di San Zeno, Piazza delle Erbe, La Casa di Giulietta, Leisure Time to Explore

Verona, made famous in Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet is our destination today. We spend the first couple of hours taking in a guided walk to a number of the town’s highlights including the Basilica di San Zeno, the city’s patron saint.

We’ll pass Juliet’s house on our way to the lively Piazza delle Erbe filled by market stalls and surrounded by magnificent medieval and Renaissance palazzi. Learn the influence of the powerful Scaligeri dynasty and you may wish to visit Castelvecchio they built in medieval times, now a museum. Window shop the exclusive designer shops lining Via Mazzini, visit the Roman Arena, or enjoy the passing parade from one of the bars and cafes edging Piazza Brà.

Day 4 The Bustling Canals of Venice
Highlights: Guided Visit to Venice, Basilica San Marco, Rialto Bridge and Produce Markets, Backstreets of Venice, Leisure Time to Explore, Dinner

We leave our hotel and catch the train to the most famous city in the world Venice. We meet our guide at the station and walk through some of the array of alleys and lesser known places in this unique town eventually reaching the the Rialto Bridge. Whilst in this area we will visit the well known waterside fish and produce markets. The tour will end in Piazza San Marco with a visit to the basilica.

The afternoon is free for you to explore Venice. You could take the local ferry and explore islands such as Murano, famous for its glass factories, or book a romantic gondola ride or perhaps relax and sip a Bellini Cocktail sitting by the water. Dinner will be awaiting us on our return.

Day 5 Cruise Lake Garda, Salò, Sirmioneitaly tour packages
Highlights: Private Cruise on Lake Garda, Leisure Time to Explore Salò and Sirmione, Rocca Scaligeri, Grotte di Catullo, Dinner

We will meet our private boat at Sirmione and cruise Lake Garda. Our first stop is at the yatchies’ haven of Salò. The beautiful waterfront promenade is the place to see and be seen while enjoying a cappuccino in one of the cafes. Rejoining our boat, we return to Sirmione around lunchtime. In the afternoon you are free to explore Sirmione at your leisure. Maybe visit the 13th century Rocca Scaligeri or the ruins of the 1st century BC/AD Roman villa Grotte di Catullo. Dinner in Bassano.

Day 6 Bassano del Grappa
Highlights: Leisure Day in Bassano del Grappa, Palladio’s Ponte degli Alpini, Palazzo Sturm, Grappa, Dinner

Today you are free to explore the historic centre of Bassano del Grappa, sample the local grappa, or walk across Palladio’s famous bridge, the Ponte degli Alpini. Perhaps visit the printing and ceramics museum Palazzo Sturm or maybe the Museo degli Alpini on the far side of the bridge. Or relax and wander the streets catching up on some shopping at one of the high quality boutiques or at the market stalls. We meet up again for dinner.

Day 7 Valdobbiadene and Prosecco
Highlights: Asolo, Leisure Time to Explore, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Tasting with Lunch

A day for the wine lovers, today we travel the Strada del Prosecco to sample Valdobbiadene’s famous sparkling wine. On the way, we stop at the medieval walled town of Asolo. This delightful little hillside town is alive with Italian cyclists breaking their climb up the mountain to enjoy a coffee in one of the cafes around the main square.

The sparkling Italian white wine Prosecco , generally a dry or extra dry wine can be served on its own or in the famous Venetian cocktail, the Bellini or in the refreshing aperitif, the Spritz. We visit a prestigious local winery and enjoy a wine tasting and lunch with an expert Prosecco maker. Wending our way through vineyards we return to the hotel for the last evening in Bassano del Grappa.

Day 8 Move to Vareseitaly tour packages Varese

Leaving Bassano del Grappa and the Veneto, we are off to Varese, an elegant city in the Lombardy region, where we spend the second week of our stay in the Italian Lakes area. Before we arrive in Varese we will stop for lunch along the shores of the scenic Lake Iseo. Arriving in Varese during the mid afternoon, there is plenty of time for you to unpack and settle in. There will be a short orientation walk of the historic town centre and then time for you continue your stroll and maybe enjoy an aperitivo in one of the local bars before we meet up for dinner.

Day 9 Cruise Lake Maggiore to the Borromeo Islands
Highlights: Private Cruise on Lake Maggiore, Guided Visits to Isola Bella and Isola Madre, Isola Dei Pescatori, Dinner

Enjoy a taste of the life of the Italian aristocracy. Today we drive to Laveno on Lake Maggiore where we meet our private taxi boat. After a leisurely trip across the lake, we arrive at the first of the three Borromeo Islands, Isola Madre. A leisurely stroll through the botanical park experiencing this beautiful example of an English style garden and its exotic birdlife is followed by a guided visit through the Palazzo Madre.

Meeting the boat again we call in at the tiny Isola dei Pescatori where you can enjoy lunch in one of the waterfront restaurants before we move on to Isola Bella. Isola Bella offers a complete contrast to Isola Madre boasting the still privately owned Palazzo Borromeo and its elaborate very formal Baroque terraced garden. Returning to Varese. We will have dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 10 Swiss Mountains

Weather permitting, today we will cross the Swiss Border and take either a Rack Rail or a Cableway high into the mountains. The precise venue will depend on a number of factors but you can be assured that there will be wonderful views across the lakes and the surrounding mountain tops from the summit. Take a walk or simply relax and enjoy the sound of cow bells tinkling in the distance.

We will provide you with a casual picnic lunch and maybe the odd glass of wine whilst you enjoy the view.

Day 11 Bellagio

Day 12  Villa Carlotta and Mengaggio

Driving along the opposite shore of the famous Lake Como, it’s time to visit the beautiful gardens of Villa Carlotta. The villa was a wedding present to Carlotta from her parents, Princess Marianne of Nassau and Albert of Prussia. It is located just outside Tremezzo. The villa's gardens are renowned for a variety of species of camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons. After this visit, we take a short tripa little further along the lake shore to Menaggio. There’s time for some lunch, to explore the town and maybe have a relaxing walk along the lakeside promenade.

Day 13 FRee Day in Varese

Spend a relaxing day wandering through the pedestrian friendly streets of Varese’s historical centre. Maybe drop into a local café or visit the chocolatier that’s been offering temptation all week. For the shoppers, there’s a chance to browse the designer shops which line the porticoes of the town centre. It is also possible to take a walk to the Italian style gardens of Giardini Estensi or organise a visit to the UNESCO listed Sacro Monte, the sacred mountain a few kilometres outside Varese.

Day 14 An Italian meal to remember

The lesser known gem, Lake Orta and the medieval lakeside village of Orta San Giulio are today’s destinations. Piazza Mario Motta provides the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a coffee looking across at the small island of Isola San Giulio. It is well worthwhile taking a five minute ferry ride to Isola San Giulio, about 400 metres offshore. Stroll the tranquil path encircling this tiny island and visit the small frescoed church. On your return to the village perhaps take in the view while lunching at a lakeside restaurant. There will be plenty of time to wander the narrow cobbled streets before we return to Varese and our Farewell Dinner.

Day 15 Final Dayvenice group tours

We head back to Milan's Malpensa Airport aiming to arrive at around 11:30am. If you are planning on travelling to other parts of Europe or back home at the end of the tour, we suggest you book flights after 2:00pm in case there is a delay in getting to the airport.
